A whale boat frame is stored in Point Hope, Alaska. Due to the fact that wood is scarce, whale boat frames are very valuable and are carefully stored from season to season. New skins will be sewed and stretched on these frames just prior to whaling season. It is not uncommon to see a dozen such frames similarly stored throughout the village.
